Many of you will not know that I was born in Rhodesia to South African parents. It was an idyllic life, on a smallholding with a borehole for water, frequent power outages, paraffin lamps were always ready, fridges & freezers ran on paraffin too, a rainwater tank allowed us to have bucket baths when there was no power and we grew our own vegetables in a huge veggy garden. This was some fifty+ years back. We then returned to South Africa in 1962 and were now able to enjoy the civilized amenities that existed at the time. No more strip roads, running water and electricity a switch away. Life was good. And then in later years majority rule happened. An event that many of us understood and supported. It was logical and needed to occur. We also bought into the concept of a rainbow nation and understood that we would join hands with the black majority and march confidently into the future, together. Well today I want to thank the ANC led municipality and government for taking me back to my childhood, once again. We have no water, AGAIN, I have to own a generator because of frequent power outages due to incompetent power utility known as Eskom, and now I need to put in a borehole and a water tank to make sure that I have water when I want it! In a so called city!! We are being dragged back to the dark ages and it is totally unacceptable!! I wonder why I am not enjoying this as much as i did as a kid?? Let me just hear of anyone who fails to vote in the next municipal elections!! We need to stand together and stop this rot now!! WE ratepayers are ALLOWING it to happen people!! Time to take our formerly well run city back at the next elections folks!! We CAN do it!! And MUST do it!!
