Many of you will receive this, tomorrow in email form. But, to cover all my bases, here’s the watered down Facebook version. Okay, here we go. We are just 41 days out: And HEY!!!! I keep telling you guys, this is for you. So, if you are looking for anyone specific, let me know and I will pass along what I have. CONNECTIONS. That’s why I do this. Wednesday, August 6th, from 11 AM - 5:00 PM, will be our 6th annual Lake Forest Day picnic, at South Park. When I first hosted this, in 2009, I expected several dozen attendees. I was shocked when over 100 turned out. The second year, over 120. The 3rd year, over 150. The 4th year, 185. And last year, 224. And 1 in 6 came from out of state. We could surpass that, this year. I expect at some point, we will reach a saturation point and the numbers will level out. But, I do not ever anticipate that this will not remain a huge annual event. It is just too much damned fun to see old friends. 86 have signed up on Facebook to attend, this year and another 52 are very likely, based on promises and previous attendance. Think about it: just over a month away and people are having already finding it difficult to locate hotels. There are always reunions, that week, so we know this list will be larger. The Class of ’74 will be in town for their 40th, and who knows what other classes will be here. It’s 35th time for the Class of ’79 and 45th time for the Class of ’69. The Class of ’82 turns 50 and the Class of ’72 turns 60 this year. And every year we have had a couple dozen, who have made the trek from at least 17 states outside of Illinois. And we have grown from just a few, to many classes from LFHS back as far as the Class of 1937, to dozens from outside the LFHS family of classes, including classes from Highland Park and Deerfield high schools and folks from Chicago, Evanston, Wheeling, Gurnee, Wadsworth, North Chicago, Beach Park, Waukegan, Grayslake, Lincolnwood, West Chicago, Deerfield, Libertyville, Mundelein, Bensenville, Highwood, Zion, Vernon Hills, Long Grove, St. Charles, Lanark, Elmhurst, Skokie, Naperville, Glenview, Antioch, Rockford, McHenry, Ingleside, Park City, Round Lake, Gages Lake, Lisle, Wildwood, Cary, Downers Grove, Peoria, Richmond and Highland Park. We even have a couple coming in from Beijing, China. As I have mentioned, we will have brats, burgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, lemonade and all the condiments, which I purchase, come from Aramark, through Robin Smith Bertucci and a group of us pick it all up, at Lake Forest College. Many of you have asked what you can bring and I have suggested fruit, casseroles, salads, desserts, drinks - whatever you like or nothing at all. If you bring something, I suggest that it be in disposable containers with disposable utensils. Hunter Koopman will provide a sound system, so we can actually listen to some of the music we grew up listening to. The system should enable everyone to hear the music, while not loud enough to arm the neighbors, with pitch forks. PERMITS: When the cops showed up, last summer, we learned that we need a permit from the Park District and a liquor license from the City. Sandy Ragsdale works at the Park District and was able to help with the permit. Rosie Lenz Wood has gone through the routine many times, through the catering business she works at. So, she and her boss, Kenny Karnazes were able to get us through that process. The food runs a couple hundred bucks each year. I pay for it all out of pocket and I like doing it, because it’s my gig and this is what I do. However, with the permits, it will be close to $600 to cover everything. I’m not complaining, but people have indicated that they want to chip in and the last couple of years and it has been helpful. Much appreciated, but not necessary. So, please don’t feel obligated to do anything. I just want you there. I purchased a generator, in 2012, to power Hunter’s sound system, my computer, with it’s photo files and whatever else we need to run. It worked great the last couple of years and I expect no problems, this year. I also have a half dozen tents, if you want to stay out of the Sun. But, BRING YOUR OWN LAWN CHAIRS. My computer is full of pictures of all of us from way back when and from not so long ago (over 4,000), including a couple thousand of all of us, 132 of Chicago, Lake Forest and the North Shore area and 309 photos from Woodstock and the complete list of bands, acts and music from that huge event. I thought about bringing blank flash drives and letting people make their own copies. But, that would prevent others from looking at the files on the computer, while the drives are loading. So, instead, I make them, myself, in my free time. However, they cost me about $7.50 apiece, at Best Buy. So, if there is enough interest, from people who want to buy them, I will crank some out. If you think you want one, I need to know. The rest of you will likely see the stuff, at South Park and realize you missed an opportunity. You will whine and moan and I will be unable to hear you. There will also be bocce ball, horse shoes, volley ball, badminton, croquet, lawn darts and frisbees, for those interested and still able. So, it’s official - Wednesday, August 6th, 11:00 AM ‘til 5:00 PM. Who has committed to attend the LF Day picnic, so far? Based on their input, 220 are already on my list of probables - many of them from states, outside of Illinois. Of course, some will have last minute issues and back out and others will show up unannounced. So, this list is a constant work in progress. If you are coming and you don’t see your name, here, let me know. The good news is that I anticipate seeing these 178: Pam Abby, Bruce Abel, Geronel Acala, Liz Acello Cashmore, Mike Adajian, Chris Alaimo, John Alaimo, Roseanne Albison, Leon Anemone, Mike Arroyo, Steve Bachner, Richard Bakos, Jackie Baldwin Epstein, Charlie Barlow, Carol Barnes Suetmeyer, Sandy Bennewitz, Debbie Berger, Karen Berger Quealy, Fred Berghorn, Paula Berghorn Polito, Jo Blake Karger, Eric Boulton, Elyse Brakefield Clark, Connie Braun Masak, Cathy Browning Callen, Sharon Burns Glody, Suzie Burns, Tim Burns, Tom Burns, Dave Callen, Kevin Callen, Jerry Cashmore, Al Chambers, Gayle Cohen Gurtz, Dana Dabney, John Dalton, Mary DeBiase, Kenneth DeFoor, Elizabeth Dehaven Abel, Celia Dehler Brusso, Margaret Dehler Brewer, Al Dobray, Bruce Donnelly, Steve Dorsey, Colleen Doyle, Ralph Eck, Nicola Egoroff Nelson, Paul Erickson, Ron Forshaw, Mike Fox, Paul Fox, Cindy Fredley, Chelsea Fredley, John Gaffke, Don Gardner, Tom Gardner, Lynn Geraghty Haisma, Marianne Gizzi, Ray Grenier, Wesley Griffis, Mary Guynn Darracott, George Guzman, Cindy Hall Platt, Kit Helliwell, Anna Hernandez Dana, Lisa Jacobs, Tom Jewell, Cory Johnson, Trish Johnson Burns, Betsy Kaufman Luther, Norman Kerr, Stephen Kiley, Rick Kirkham, George Kleopfer, Chuck Knesley, Jill Knoup, Hunter Koopman, Dave Larson, Greg Lazaretti, Rosie Lenz Wood, Jim “Cal Wan” Lynch, Tom Lynch, Janet Lucente Gardner, Laura Lyman Starr, Cathy Mac, Wayne Malizio, Patty Martin Petersen, Ames Ross Mathee, Mark McMahon, Whitson McNulty, Debbie Meyer Ennis, Titus Mielke, Jeff Miller, Laura Minnis, Lisa Mortensen, Mindy Mullin Cronkhite, Jeanie Murray, Amy Neill, Kim Neill, Scott Nelson, Steve Nelson, Carol Neuhaus Jones, Mike O’Brien, Janet Olsen Enstrom, Lucy Olsen, Tricia Ori, Nick Pasquesi, Chris Patarazzi, Bob Petersen, Neila Petersen Hopkins, Charlie Peterson, Brent Petit, Tom Pharris, Erich Picking, Patti Pierce Hutton, Laura Pincus Santeller, Cheri Posner, Dani Posner, Lana Posner, Larry Posner, Richard Price, Gracie Ragsdale, Sandy Ragsdale, Steve Ragsdale, Jeannie Reeves Kelley, Sue Renz Fox, Cathleen Rodgers-Wickman, Madge Rodgers Mutchler, Susan Rosberg Pappano, Ron Ruffalo, “Biker” Tim Samuri, Rose Sansone, Patti Santell Waugh, Tom Seccombe, Melinda Seeger Trygstad, Steve Selfridge, Don Simonds, Robin Smith Bertucci, Lyn Stevens Drathring, Kristin Stocklin Welu, Robbie Stuart Davidson, Marion Sutherland, Bill Taziloi, Biff Thiele, Craig Thiele, Nolan Thiele, Lori Thomas, Pat Tufo, Brett Tuttrup, Tim Velo, Vicki Velo Kocovelos, Bill Vernon, Joe Vignocchi, Tom Vincett, Nancy Walgren, Bob Walther, Peg Walther, Terry Waltman, Rick Warmbold, Brian Waugh, Chuck Weaver, Lisa Weber Hunter, Lynn Weber, Deni Weigel Eads, Sandi Weld, Skip Weld, Mike Wetzel, Kathy Whiteside Smith, Matt Williams, Charlie Wilson, Spencer Wolf, Robert Wood and Barbara Yurisich.
