Many outdoor enthusiasts love the challenge of the climb to the summit of the Park and for good reason. This 8 mile roundtrip adventure will take you from a shaded, forested trail to the meadow at Deer Camp with two well-placed picnic benches for a breather. It is there that you might smell the “California fragrance” of Hayfield Tarweed, a late blooming native wildflower, that will accompany you through the meadow before you start the ascent on a steep, gravely portion of the trail that will lead to a bench with a beautiful view. As you continue to climb, the trail will open into a lovely Oak woodland and then intersect with the Hayfields Trail; turn left and continue to climb another .4 miles to Mountain Spur, where you make the final ascent. On the open mountain top, you are rewarded with incredible views of the valley floor. In fact, if you look carefully, you will even see the Beauty Ranch below, a view that Jack London delighted in. #sonoma #jacklondonpark #hikes
