Many parents mistakenly believe that their high school guidance counselor will take care of college stuff for their students. The college search and application process is one that families must take control of. Whether you hire a consultant, or take on the process yourself, start early. By the time your student has finished junior year, he/she should pretty much have a solid college list and have visited, or have plans to visit soon, the colleges on that list.
