Many people believe the first LADDER MATCH ever was between The Heart Break Kid Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon a.k.a. Scott Hall. However the actual origins date back to the early 70s up in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Brett The Hitman Hart was involved in some of the earliest ladder matches during his time as a wrestler for Stampede Wrestling located in his home town in Canada. It was the Hitman who introduced the idea to the owner of WWE, Vince McMahon, and performed in the companys first ever ladder match. During a taped yet untelevised match in 1992, Brett Hart faced his well known rival Shawn Michaels, in the historic contest. Although Hart won the match, which also allowed him to retain his reigning title as Intercontinental Champion, he doesnt get the credit that his counterpart does in regard to the origins of this revolutionary match. Known largely as one of the best technical wrestlers in the business it can be argued that The Hitman may have ushered in the extreme era to the WWE.
