Many people dont know how much leeway the police give when speeding. This is relative to the speed limit. If you are in a 25mph zone, you may get some attention at 5mph over the limit. Out on the interstate, keep it reigned in to 9mph over the speed limit. This is largely dependent on the officer, but as a general rule you will be pretty safe. The safest way to keep from getting a ticket, obviously, is not to speed. If you get stopped, be polite. Opinions vary about how you should respond to the officers questions. One school says to not tell on yourself for any reason. The other is to be honest about your traffic violation. Remember, though, if you plan on fighting your ticket, your words will be used. So if you admit to going even a couple over the limit, you have provided at least some evidence of guilt. Judges will sometimes bump specific speeding tickets to a generalized excessive speed ticket. For me...if you made me laugh, you did not get a ticket. I didnt feel right laughing with someone and then writing them a ticket.
