Many people don’t realize that finding fistula patients can actually be just as difficult as treating them. Fistula is such a traumatizing and isolating condition that women are often reluctant to come forward, and some are not even aware that they have a medical condition for which treatment is available. Thats why raising awareness is such a critical component of the global fight against fistula, particularly in rural areas. Informative flyers like these (from Uganda and Tanzania) are posted in health centers and distributed by community health workers; they help educate the public on fistula and encourage women who are suffering to seek the treatment they need.
