Many people have posted on Facebook about how the Ice Bucket Challenges have been annoying and that people should just donate money and be more humble about such things. However, lets all take a moment to first realize we all live on Social Media sites. Lets remember most people like a challenge. And lets also remember most people dont JUST donate money to any cause. ALS is trying to raise awareness and money. The Ice Bucket Challenge has raised over $15.6 MILLION dollars to date-last year at this time they had only raised $1.8 million. I have worked for organizations before and its very challenging to get people to donate money. People do not just like giving their money away. The article below is direct from the ALS website. Also, here are the rules for the Ice Bicket Challenge: The rules are pretty simple: Someone takes a video of themselves dumping a bucket of ice water on their heads, posts it to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter and then challenges friends to do the same within 24 hours or donate $100 to an ALS charity of their choice. Many of those subjected to the dare often do both. You may find it annoying, you may think people need to be more humble in their donations. I understand that. However, the fact of the matter is, this is working. To me this is no different than the walks people participate in for rape and cancer donations. You pay to walk as an individual or a team. That money is all donated. No one is telling those people to be more humble. But since ALS is bombarding your social media sites people are having an issue. Do you know what ALS is? Maybe you should look into it. My rant for the day. Hope I havent pissed anyone off, not my intention. :) alsa.org/news/media/press-releases/ice-bucket-challenge-0818.html
