Many people operate under the mentality that the less food you eat, the more weight you will lose. If I eat breakfast and then go as many hours as I possibly can before eating again I will surely lose weight. Wrong. While it seems counter-intuitive, the more you eat the more you will burn. (This does not mean eating a surplus of calories. You still need to create a caloric deficit to lose weight) What Im saying is the strategy of eating as few calories as possible, skipping meals and working out like crazy is about the same as a dog chasing its tail. Skipping meals and eating as little as possible is going to slow down your metabolism (your body knows its not going to get more food again for awhile so it will slow everything down and store it to make what you gave it last as long as possible. This is not good). The other problem that this kind of eating habit often causes is binging...you know, when its been so long since you last ate, now youre ravenous you could eat an entire box of your kids goldfish. (also not good.) Eat. Eat often. Eat whole, non processed foods. Eat from allllllllll the food groups. Dont eliminate all the carbs or all the fats. Eat plenty of lean protein. Eat nutrient dense foods (complex carbohydrates, lean proteins and healthy fats). By giving your body plenty of nutrients throughout the day you will boost your metabolism which is the key to weight/fat loss.
