Many people will tell you that you need vast amounts of land to install a looped Ground Source Heat Pump. Preferably a large field or open plan garden. Slinky coils are conventionally laid horizontally which may reduce the depth the coils need to be laid, but running them vertically reduces the space required, and for the most part; the cost of installation. As this was a new build, we were quite comfortably able to lay 2 x 50m coils under both driveways of the property. Depths were reached, pressures were maintained and system is running beautifully. If youre going to invest in a heating system, you might want to consider a Heat Pump. Especially now that the domestic R.H.I has been launched. It literally is a stunning incentive whereby you cant go wrong.
