Many people wonder what are some of the dominant influences that have impacted my mind & life. Even though most modern rap music gets a bad rap (no pun intended), rap music as a branch off of the Hip Hop tree, has been one of my most dominant & most consistent source of knowledge & inspiration. Im a product of the Golden Age of Hip Hop, when not only was the music dope (great), but also was often loaded heavily with deep content. Wu-Tang shaped my mind & thoughts, just as much as Marcus Garvey did. Songs like the one below, not only shaped what I thought, but also taught me to think & to go beyond the surface, using questioning as a tool of liberation. I honestly wish that we had more of this music. It was laced with messages of cultural pride, urban artistic expression, & a challenging of the status quo. Im not a rapper, but maybe I need to get in the studio & record something that will inspire the youth, just as this type of music inspired me. vimeo/6466117
