Many political prognosticators are predicting that the 2016 - TopicsExpress

Many political prognosticators are predicting that the 2016 presidential race will be between two well-known political names--Hillary Clinton for the Democrats and Jeb Bush for the Republicans. I have been skeptical of this viewpoint for some time, and now I see that respected political analyst Charlie Cook is also doubtful that we will see such a matchup in 2016. In a recent speech, Cook said that there was less than a 50% chance Hillary would even run and that Jeb Bush would have a difficult time making it through a Republican primary. Bushs support for open borders and national control of education policy through such vehicles as Common Core do not play well with conservative primary voters. Cook sees those two issues as ones that could sink Jebs bid to be the third Bush President in my lifetime. Meanwhile, Cook notes that Hillarys disastrous book tour is a sign that she is no shoo in to win the presidency in 2016. Already, Jim Webb is challenging her from the right while Bernie Sanders threatens to run against her from the left. The anti-Hillary vote is significant enough to give her pause as to whether to run or not. If she decides not to run, one of my Democratic friends says to watch for John Kerry, who lost narrowly to George W. Bush in 2004, to enter the race. That would be some primary--Jim Webb vs. John Kerry, who were both Vietnam Veterans and who represent opposing factions of the Vietnam generation, running against one another. On the Republican side, Cook sees a Midwest Republican governor or someone with Tea Party support winning the nomination. I concur with his assessment.
