Many thanks everyone, first thing hats off to Chris for that top performance. I gave chase on the first hill only to watch my race plan go out the window 30 mins in. Got heat stroke on the first couple of sections, was burnt to crisp, couldnt get any food down and my body was unable able to process fluids at all and just wanted to vomit. During the first night my quads got ruined my feet eviscerated and was suffering from a fever and after the climb towards Braithwaite at one point I just curled up into a ball on the verge of tears was trying to get my body working again. By mornings light I kicked it up a gear with the goal of getting to the start of the 50 to bank some extra hours in case things went wrong again. By Saturday lunch the heat picked up again and I just took the careful approach to ease it in rather than push and potentially pass out as we already people dropping in the heat. By the time Chris was finishing up Id go to a comfortable zone and just started to enjoy the weekend more rather than worry. Even managed to sneak in a quick swim in the lake to cool down. Later on when en-route to Ambleside my head torch fell and broke and as I was assessing the damage the heavens just came crashing down on me. Ran to Ambleside without any light and made a botch job repairs with duck tape, a tooth pick and spare shoe lace to give me some light. Although by 3am the batteries went dead and I had to guess the last night sections. The night slog was another just long march of cold exposure and the hallucinations were coming in thick and fast. On the last section the group Id helped throughout the night said I should push on to claim a PB. With that in mind despite the pain I stormed up the quarry at the end and ran down it at a suicidal pace smashing down to the confusion to the other runners who were gingerly making their decent down. Only at the end of the race had I worked out how to do the decents with grace and ease. Sprinted into Coniston and had a full blown 200 meter sprint finish to the end with a friend. Finally got back to my tent to see the rain had got in ruining all my gear, but after a couple of beers and a morning brew was up and about. While I didnt get the time I initially was going for this weekend taught me the importance of learning to adapt to situations and I felt 10 times stronger on the finish today than last year.
