Many times, events in our lives leave us perplexed as to the motivations of the perpetrators. Setting aside situations or events where we simply cannot bring ourselves to ascribe base motives to those we held in the highest esteem, or admit our own failings that may have guided them to their decisions and subsequent actions, there are often situations that defy any known logic or motivation, yet have had profound impact upon us. And sometimes, no answer will ever become clear, and no amount of pondering or contemplating will ever shed light on this troubling mystery. Perhaps that person has gone far beyond retrieval, to a world beyond the dark dream of human existence, or to an equally inaccessible region of obscurity. No amount of gazing spellbound at eternity through our cars windshield onto rain-swept city streets, whispering, Why...why...? yields results. No amount of beseeching, imploring, or pleading yield anything but the echoes of an empty, darkened room. We strive to understand adverse events that have occurred in our lives, and sometime great learning and personal growth result. But othertimes, we have to accept that there are some things that we will never know. And we have to learn to be ok with that, though it seems impossible, given the gravity of the situation. A conclusion I arrived at when I was a teen was this; If you cant stand not knowing, life will be a long, difficult passage.
