Many times you will hear that Nsukka people are selfish and dubious. When I was growing up, due to the things I was told concerning Nsukka people, I developed a kinda phobia towards anybody from Nsukka. As I grew up, I mingled with all calibre of people from different places and Nsukka people were not left out. As the days passed, I took it upon myself to find out why and if everything I have heard about nsukka people is true. During this process, I found out that all that was said against these people came not from factual facts but from jealousy, ignorance and laziness. It was an unholy propaganda designed to tarnish the image of a great people. You do not condemn a man for knowing how to succeed. Nsukka people were tagged selfish, dubious and greedy simply cos they knows what they want and how to get what they want. An old woman deep inside Nsukka will use the proceeds from her petty palm kernel and fried bread fruit (aki na ukwa) business to train her son in the university and the son really really gathers things upstairs, and with that, knows whats best for himself, and will do whatever is necessary to get that thing to better his life and that of his people.....and you have the guts to talk ill of that man. My best friend is from Nsukka, one of my mentors is from Nsukka. I love these people, not for any other thing, but for simply knowing what they want and how to get what they want. So please, next time they tell you anything about Nsukka people, remind them that it is not their fault for wanting to better their lives. Even if they are selfish, they are not stopping you from becoming your own selfish. Many people from other areas of Enugu state will identify with what I have said here. That stigmatization must stop. Since someone has already voiced this same stigmatization out on facebook, I deemed it fit to address this issue and clarify some things. P.S. I am from Awgu local government area. Thank you.
