Many years ago, I read a little book; it has been on my mind lately. It is Jay Adams little book entitled Godliness through Disciple. We cannot achieve godliness through the process of osmosis. It does not come to us accidentally or to anyone without great effort. Why? Because godliness goes against our nature. If we do not make plans, fortify our desires, and execute discipline in our lives, we will never be holy people. I know of know one who is holy automatically...so I know very few holy people. The few I do know, without exception, are disciplined people bent on being or becoming holy godly people Oh, yes, I know lots of people who call themselves Christians...some even brag about it, but few who are godly and holy. Holiness and godliness are synonymous; you simply cannot have one with out the other. They are two sides of the same coin. If you do not think about holiness and make plans to become holy, then you never will...and remember without holiness, no man shall see the Lord. [Hebrews 12:14] The seeing the Lord here means to be on His...good side and in heaven with Him. I would like to make a recommendation to you...every last one of you; no one is omitted: Make godliness and holiness your objective in life. Now, that means that Jesus Christ is going to become preeminent or primary in your thinking, your daily life and activities. But refuse profane and old wives fables and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise is profiteth little, but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise that now is, and of that which is to come. [1Timothy 4:7-8] Now, if you do this, it means that you are going to gradually stop living to please yourself and start living to please God. This last verse is the scripture on which Jay Adams based his book, Godliness through Discipline.. God help us all to achieve holiness, because brethren without it, no man shall see the Lord.
