Many years ago, back when I was still working at the Mardela - TopicsExpress

Many years ago, back when I was still working at the Mardela Springs Post Office, Christmas was such a special time of year. Mail was heavy with cards and packages but it was also one of the best times of the year for me. The children would send their letter to Santa and of course the PO had a large generic post card from the North Pole that would only seem real IF you were under the age of 4. So I started answering the letters myself. It was a wonderful time to explain the REAL REASON FOR THE SEASON. Of course I always started the letter with info about the elves making the toys, the reindeer resting up for the long night ahead & Mrs. Claus doing all the cooking. But then I reminded the children that it wasnt about GETTING gifts but more about GIVING. Even though they didnt have money to buy gifts, they could do the same by giving their TIME to an older neighbor, their parents and siblings by helping them. I always enjoyed writing the letters and they were each one a personal note, not a copy of one I had written. The last one I wrote really made me sad, it was from an infant that was written by their Mother. I had written a letter to the same little girl for YEARS! And in all that time I had hoped I could reach her by reminding her every year about the BIRTH OF CHRIST and not the time to receive but to give. This letter she had written for her child was exactly like she had written when she was a little girl herself. So I ask you now, PLEASE take time to tell the real story of Christmas to your children and grandchildren. I can’t stress enough how much we ALL need to be reminded sometimes what Christmas really is all about. Later tonight I just might write you another little short story about Rudolph & Santa trips around town during this special time of year. Hope you will enjoy the stories.
