Many years ago, management expert Peter Drucker propounded the theory of “Planned abandonment.” Drucker’s theory became popular in management circles, and was applied to individual lives. It simply stated that business managers ought to courageously undertake a regular review of their activities, and cut off any engagement that was consistently unfruitful and a drain to resources. In a sense, that is what the owner of the vineyard in Jesus’ parable was doing: reviewing his investment and seeking to cut off that which was unfruitful. Fruitfulness implies being abundantly productive in every sphere of life; it means manifesting the attributes of God and generating qualitative and quantitative results in all that you do. God expects us to be fruitful. In a parable, Jesus tells the story of a man, typifying God, who had planted a tree, typifying each of us, and came looking for fruit on that tree each year. Finding no fruit for three straight years, he threatened to cut down the tree. God has created us to be fruitful. He is disappointed when we are not, and glorified when we are (John 15:8). But not only has God created us to be fruitful, He has empowered us to be. The Bible says, in the beginning God blessed them (us) and said, “Be fruitful….” The word ‘blessed’ here is no idle term. It means ‘empowered’. In other words, God has given us the power to be fruitful. Creation’s ability to be fruitful is resident in its seed, and every seed produces fruit according to its kind. You have the Seed of God. You will be fruitful! Only allow the Word of God to dominate your thoughts and nourish your spirit. So live each day knowing that you have been created for fruitfulness, and empowered to be fruitful. Live each day in union with the Seed of God in you. Live each day expecting to be fruitful. Your expectations will not be cut short in Jesus’ name. Today, and always, you will be fruitful, in Jesus’ name. - Pastor Taiwo
