Many years ago, when I was still in elementary school, I was given - TopicsExpress

Many years ago, when I was still in elementary school, I was given the Student of the Month, for a second time, in the same year. Now I had just returned from school overseas and I was really pretty bored and not a very attentive and good student. I am pretty sure that my parents were wondering how a student that had required them to go to several parent/teacher meetings had all of a sudden had a major change, in behavior. I am also pretty sure that if you were to ask my parents why I had received this award not once but twice they would have told you Well, for some reason the teacher just picked him once before, and she picked him again for this month. In other words, they would not have any real answer as to why I got the award the first time, much less the second. They would probably have to admit that for some strange reason I had found favor with my teacher. Would it be because of what I had done or would it be what I deserved? I seriously doubt it. Why did I just tell that story well it came to mind when reading in the book of Daniel this morning. Personally, I just love the stories, found in the Old Testament, that illustrate how God brings someone into favor in a very unfavorable situation. Now God made Daniel to find favor, compassion, and loving-kindness with the chief of the eunuchs. Daniel was given favor in the kings palace, even though he was a captive and was taken prisoner. Joseph was given favor with the guards as a prisoner in Egypt. And even David, before he was king, was given favor when he sought refuge in enemy territory with the Philistines. Why such favor with these people in these situations? Was it because of what they had done to earn it? Absolutely Not. It was because of who God is. In my life there have been many times that I have asked God to give me favor in certain situations or with certain people. Sometimes we hold back from asking for such things because we feel so unworthy or so undeserving. However the Lord wants us to ask because He loves to answer. Personally, I have been given favor in many situations where nothing but wrath was deserved. I have found that when we truly embrace Gods grace, then we can begin to understand a snippet of how much He loves us. SELAH!
