Maplewood Front Page July 16.... Obviously, the Maplewood - TopicsExpress

Maplewood Front Page July 16.... Obviously, the Maplewood congregation has experienced some grief in the past week with the deaths of Larry Scott and Imogene Allison. Our separation is temporary because of Christ, but no less painful in the immediate context. Interestingly, their passing precipitated a great deal of conversation via Facebook and other venues of the “Maplewood legacy” that has been passed through generations as Jesus established His Name through this congregation in the 12-Points area of Terre Haute. I have shared that conversation with you via my FB page and via our email prayer chain. It is now the turn of our generation to carry the torch. That may seem obvious to all of you, except that in our congregation, we are actually missing nearly an entire generation of people…the Baby Boomers. The largest generation of people in the history of the United States is largely absent from the Maplewood congregation. This is especially seen in our leadership (kudos to Rick Brewster)! The torch here is being handed from the Builder generation now being eulogized to the Buster generation and later generations now emerging. Also, the nature of our congregation is changing from looking like a “pyramid” with Christ at the top, the pastors/elders beneath Him, deacons beneath the pastors/elders, etc, to a “sphere” with Christ in the center and all of us moving around and interacting with Him and one another. All of this means much upheaval for those continuing in His work and legacy here! That being said, let us recall these words from Psalm 100- “Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing. Know that the Lord Himself is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving And His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name. For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting And His faithfulness to all generations.” It is the Lord who is faithful to all generations whether or not the generations themselves are faithful! May the song continue to ring true at Maplewood one way or the other, “May all those who come behind us find us faithful!”
