Marathon Classic Donates $547,250 to 22 NW Ohio & SE Michigan Children’s Charities The Marathon Classic Presented by Owens Corning & O-I donated $547,250 to 22 northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan children’s charities today as a result of this year’s annual LPGA tournament. Hundreds of children from seven northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan counties will benefit from the contributions. The breakdown of charities that received Marathon Classic contributions is as follows: Anne Grady Services $25,000 The Arts Partnership of Hancock County $ 5,200 Camp Fire Northwest Ohio $30,000 CASA Volunteer Association (Monroe) $ 4,000 CASA Volunteer Association (Toledo) $43,000 Charity Ticket Program $10,250 Children’s Hunger Alliance $25,000 Christian Clearing House $25,000 Down Syndrome Association of Greater Toledo $ 8,000 Findlay Family YMCA $ 5,000 First Tee of Lake Erie $ 6,500 Friends of the Findlay-Hancock Co Library $ 2,500 Gliding Stars of Findlay $35,000 James Dickman Memorial Fund $ 5,000 Jamie Farr Scholarship Fund of the Toledo Community Foundation $88,500 Junior Achievement $15,000 Mobile Meals of Toledo $20,000 Putnam County YMCA $ 7,400 Ronald McDonald House Charities $100,000 Ryan’s Place $ 5,500 Special Kids Therapy, Inc. $42,400 Specialized Alternatives for Family and Youth $24,000 United Way of Hancock County $15,000 The tournament has now raised $8.7 million for 139 northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan children’s charities since its inception in 1984. “It was a phenomenal year for the Marathon Classic,” stated Tournament Director Judd Silverman. “We not only surpassed our goal for charitable contributions, but also experienced a double figure increase in television ratings on The Golf Channel compared to 2013. Thanks to Marathon the four days of television coverage once again generated positive exposure for northwest Ohio all over the world. The icing on the cake was Lydia Ko. To have a 17-year old win the Marathon Classic is something we may never see again. She’s truly an incredible young lady.” “The charitable mission of the tournament is the primary reason we decided to become the title sponsor two years ago,” said Marathon Petroleum Corporation’s Senior Vice President of Marketing Tom Kelley. “We are extremely pleased with this year’s results and the number of children’s charities in northwest Ohio that will benefit. At Marathon, we take great pride in supporting this event, and it will be a privilege to present these contributions to so many deserving charities.” The tournament also announced the children’s charities that will receive contributions from the 2015 Marathon Classic. They include: Assistance Dogs (NW Ohio Chapter), Boy Scouts of America (NW Ohio Chapter), CASA Volunteer Association of Hancock County, Children’s Resource Center (Wood County Chapter), Children’s Rights Council of northwest Ohio, Family Promise of Greater Toledo, Findlay Girl’s Fast Pitch Softball Club, Findlay Enrichment Programs, Fire Relief Foundation of Findlay, The Friendly Center of Toledo, Grace Community Center of Toledo, Hancock County Special Olympics, Heartbeat of Toledo Pregnancy Support Center, Hancock/Hardin/Wyandot/ Putnam Community Action Commission, iTaalk Autism Foundation of northwest Ohio, The International Boxing Club of Toledo, Jamie Farr Scholarship Fund of the Toledo Community Foundation, Keeping Kids Safe of northwest Ohio, Lenawee Community Foundation, Ronald McDonald House of NW Ohio. The 2015 Marathon Classic will be held July 13-19 at Highland Meadows Golf Club for a purse of $1.5 million. All four rounds of the tournament will once again be televised live by The Golf Channel.
