Marc Saunders was 108 pages and was done on used A4 copy papers, drawn with a 0,3 pen, and inked using old markers, and it was all triggered by the death of my friend, swedish comic book legend Stefan Nagy. I created the character and wrote the story, penciled and inked it. I did everything on issue one, even the InDesign layouts/lettering/FX and sent it to the printer. And then did it again for the following issue. It started late 2009 when Obama was elected. I started thinking of an idea 2010, and the story is about nefarious events happening before the re-election of Obama, and he appears prominently in the story. It`s an action story - a scifi version of Bourne Identity / Die Hard. It was published as a nationwide comic book, one of very few in Sweden, early spring 2011, which means that I created and deployed this massive project from scratch within 6 months. And most of the general atmosphere in the story, happened for real - the extreme right going hysterical - and Obama`s re-election was specifically predicted in the comic. It`s drawn in a very detailed and background-heavy style, with 7-9 frames per page. It was inspired by french action comics from the sixties when they depended heavily on american daily adventure-strips for inspiration. Jije is one such inspiration. The main thrust for the comic was the fact that Sweden Democrats, an extreme rightwing movement, had started to appear in Sweden, and I could sense that much was influenced by the same right-wing forces in the states, and I felt the need to highlight that connection. The ideology and the thinking was almost identical. America has a deep influence culturally over Sweden, and it`s not far fetched to see this connection being part of the reason this was happening in my country. And I didn`t like it. And that is why Agent Marc Saunders came to be at all.
