Marc`s rant of the week. Have we all become whimps? Everyday I - TopicsExpress

Marc`s rant of the week. Have we all become whimps? Everyday I here the weathermen and or women say, it`s going to be another hot one. Going to be 95 today, but it`s going to feel more like the 100`s. I work outside everyday, and I mean everyday. Yes it is hot and I sweat a lot, and I change cloths several times a day. And then I hear them say, might not be a good idea to have the dogs out or the kids playing outside today. Our dogs and kids are outside, the dogs can get water when ever they want and they sleep under the back room in the shade most of the afternoon. Not bad in my book, shade is a wonderful thing. I have been in the tractor, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and will be again today, mowing and baling hay. The air stopped working in the tractor several years ago, so the windows and door are open for air. Yesterday was hot, but wasn`t terrible, sitting in the tractor going up and down the windrows of hay, making round bales for this winters use. I remember my Father talking about farming with horses when he was a young man, and how they had to do some work at night when it was real hot so the horses wouldn`t drop over dead from the heat. Or laying outside on a hayrack at night to sleep, because the house was so hot you couldn`t sleep.. No electric, so no AC, no fan, no nothing. Everything they did was hard manual labor, no automated anything. I also remember when I was younger, we would get weeks of this kind of weather, and it didn`t cool down much at night either. We would loose a few old sows from the heat once and awhile if they couldn`t take the heat, but a water mister sure helped that. Common sense goes a long ways when it come to heat, don`t do anymore than you know you can do. And sit down when you need to, and have a cool drink and relax. So when your thinking it`s darn hot out, think about the old timers, that never had the comfort of an AC.
