Marc wrote--Hi all, I am a 34 yo male bilateral BK amputee resulting from congenital defects (fibular hemimelia syndrome). My whole life, I have loved amusement parks and roller coasters, and now as a Father and Uncle I love taking my daughter, nephews, and nieces on rides just as much as I enjoy riding them myself. I just left Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ, where, to my shock, anger, and disappointment, I was not allowed on a single ride. I was not even allowed on the slowest, tamest rides in the park with my 3 year old daughter. It did not occur to me to check out any ride restrictions before visiting since I have ridden essentially every ride with no issues at Hershey Park, Kings Dominion, Dutch Wonderland, Disneyland, Legoland, and numerous boardwalk parks, carnivals, and state fairs. I found some of the language in the Safety & Accessibility manual at Six Flags particularly offensive. For example, the guidelines for Safari Tours, the tamest toddler ride in the park, require riders to have, at least one naturally fully formed and functioning arm absent of prosthetic devices and one naturally fully formed and functioning leg absent of prosthetic devices. I have played soccer, basketball, and numerous other sports my whole life and now teach Phys Ed and coach youth sports for a living, but apparently my legs are too unnatural and not adequately functioning for the Six Flags company to want my familys business. I drove my family car (no adaptive devices) with 6 passengers to the park at speeds up to 65 mph yet was told the 5 mph rides deemed safe for toddlers are unsafe for me. I am posting to vent my anger and also to see if anyone out there has had this issue at Six Flags or any other park.
