March 11th -- Proverbs 11 He who earnestly seeks good finds favor, but trouble will come to him who seeks evil v.27 The word earnestly here speaks of the motivation behind what we are doing, something the Lord is greatly concerned about. Jesus taught on motivation as well, why do we give or why do we pray? If it is to be seen by people, to try to create a good image of ourselves we are wasting our time. When I was in Bible School my mentor would often say in class to check your motives, why do you want certain things, what is your motive for ministry? The Lord is greatly concerned about our motives and the purity of our motives! God gives us a promise here, if we sincerely seek after good, after God we will find favor which is the grace of God! The Lord wants to bestow grace upon us, He knows it is what we need, His favor and blessing, the true grace of God! But if we want His favor because we are greedy and we want to be rich, if our motives are based on selfishness and our sinful desires, God is not pleased! Those corrupt men and false teachers play to this, knowing human nature and knowing they can extort people with their false promises of wealth and success. But God is looking for the sincere heart, the person who seeks after Him, knowing how much this dark world needs the great grace of God to shine. And through that person the Lord will shine, as He has done throughout human history. And the world will be a better place as the work of the Lord, His love and His grace touch hearts and lives in a way that is eternal! I pray you will be that person!
