March 15 We all have a conscience, or we should have. Every once in a while you hear of someone who did something that seemed to indicate a person had no conscience, and I’ll leave that up to those that are smarter than me to evaluate. But in the normal human beings that I come into contact with, It is our conscience that tells us when we have done something wrong. You may try to stifle it, you may argue with it, you may try to come up with a justification of why you had to do what you did, or why you couldn’t get out of it, but you can’t escape your conscience. A good active conscience is your best friend and critic. It tells you when you are doing what is right and what is wrong. When you are doing what’s right, your conscience gives you security and courage. When you are doing wrong, your conscience makes you feel uneasy and fearful. One of the sad things in our nation today is so many people are being raised with a weak conscience and they are wreaking havoc in society and leaving behind a trail of wrecked lives. The only answer, according to the Bible, is to allow your conscience to be bound by the word of God. We are told, “Repent and believe the Gospel, because the blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, cleanses us from all sin.” In Hebrews 9:13, the Bible says it all, “Christ through the eternal spirit offered himself without spot to God to purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God.” Prayer: Lord Jesus, guide me by Your word to accept Your forgiveness and live to serve and glorify You.
