March 23, pit bull hospitalizes its owner. Only four weeks later, April 18, the pit bull tries to complete the owner-kill it attempted the month before. Somehow the people present contain the pit bull on the first floor and flee to the roof themselves. Rescue personnel comes, at risk of their own lives. They have to use expensive machinery to get the people off the roof. James L. Waldo Walsh, 55, of 138 S. Franklin St., suffered severe injuries to both hands and arms that may require skin grafts. He also sustained bites on his upper body in the 3:45 p.m. attack. Walsh, who fled through the front door and was flailing and bleeding profusely in the street, was rushed by AREA Services Ambulance to Geisinger, where he remained Thursday afternoon in serious condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman. Thoughts: This man didnt license or vaccinate his pit bull and surely didnt havent liability insurance for if the pit bull hurt someone else. Im betting tax-payers will also pay this mans extensive medical bills. Tax-payers will also bear the financial burden of what it cost to rescue this man from his own known killer pit bull. IMO it would be useful to modify the law so that owners have to pay not only their own medical bills, but also all the costs generated by rescuing them from their own dogs -- from police time to fire department equipment to any bullets discharged in shooting the attacking dog. No need to be breed-specific about it, though the pit bull fans will object anyway since we all know which dogs will be generating the biggest bills (and the most often) for their owners. newsitem/news/shamokin-man-attacked-by-dog-in-serious-condition-1.1670383
