March 24, 2014 – Thought and Poem With mixed feelings, many of us say good-bye to winter, the snow and ice and the freezing cold. You would think that someone who loved the winter months would be “crazy!” But, there are some who enjoy being outdoors in the cold, skiing, sledding, skating, or playing in the snow. My hat is off to them….I like warm, long sunny days and my area to be free of snow! Spring begins the period of time during the year that I enjoy living the most. There are so many things to see again, that had disappeared when the fall season closed its doors to winter. The birds, the baby squirrels, new kittens, puppies, and budding trees are all evidence that spring has taken the center stage and is starting off giving us a great performance. I am an appreciative audience. I clap my hands for each new flower, or anything common to spring…and at times I may jump up from my seat and shout my praises. What about you? What do you think of when you see the budding trees among the clouds in the sky? Share your thoughts with us…Jeanne Claire Probst Budding Trees among the Clouds The budding tree stood out among the clouds that remained of the winter’s sky, I stopped what I was doing, so I could admire the beauty; looking up many times. I saw the nest that the squirrels had built and probably stored all the nuts they had found, Old leaves barely hanging on, that the wind will soon have falling to the ground. The neighbors are out on their lawns, sprucing up their yards and clearing away the winter’s debris, And as we stood talking, we all looked up and commented on the budding tree. “Spring would be here sooner than we think.” and we started putting our shovels away, “Spring is just around the corner, just a short while away.” It won’t be long before these buds give way to shiny green leaves, And we will be standing in our yards, talking about their presence and admiring these. The winter’s sky will soon give way to a spring and summer sky, Where the clouds will disappear, the sun will shine and the winds will blow our muddy lawns dry. The flowers will sprout; the green grass will grow, The budding trees, all these will let us know, That the clouds of the winter’s sky, Are leaving the center stage and is telling us good-bye.
