March 25, 2014 Dear Xotzin, Thank you for contacting me regarding the Youth Prison Reduction through Opportunities, Mentoring, Intervention, Support, and Education Act (S.1307). As you may know S.1307 would amend the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974 to establish a PROMISE Advisory Panel to assist the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention in assessing and developing standards and evidence-based practices to prevent juvenile delinquency and criminal street gang activity. This bill would also assess the needs and existing resources for juvenile delinquency and criminal street gang activity prevention and intervention. This legislation has been referred to the Senate Committee on the Judiciary for its review. Though I am not a member of that particular panel, please know that your thoughts will serve as important guidance as I continue to review this bill. Like you, many Coloradans have also contacted my office with their opinions on a wide range of issues, including energy, defense, health care, the environment, small businesses, education and other important topics. I believe the most fundamental aspect of my job as your U.S. Senator is to listen carefully to the views of every Coloradan. That is why I am grateful that you decided to contact me regarding this important issue. Your thoughts are essential to my understanding of where Coloradans stand on the important issues facing our state and nation. I will remain attentive to what you and other Coloradans have to say about matters before Congress, the concerns of our communities, and the issues facing Colorado and the nation. My job is not merely about supporting or opposing legislation, but also about bridging the divide that has paralyzed our nations politics. For more information about my positions and to learn how my office can assist you, please visit my website at markudall.senate.gov. Warm regards,
