March 26, 2014 Obits George M. Snead of Farmville, VA passed away March 20, 2014 with his family by his side. He was born June 30, 1925 in Hemphill, WV to Maynard B. and Myrtle Gullett Snead. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Elizabeth Maddox Snead. He is survived by his wife of 17 years Lois Snead; his sister Helen Snead Sine, of Welch, WV; his niece Sally Sine Bailey; his stepdaughter Barbara Bowman (Walter) Belcher of Ft. Worth, TX; Services will be held at a later date in his home state of West Virginia. Purcell “Mule” “Blood” Buford Sr., 88, of Bluefield, WV, passed away March 20, 2014, at Bluefield Regional Hospital, Bluefield, WV. Purcell was born in Pulaski, Virginia to William and Annie Buford on April 1, 1925. Purcell is preceded in death by his parents, William and Annie Buford; sixteen brothers and sisters, two sons Purcell Buford Jr. and Jayce Collins Jr. and one great grandchild Toni Howze. VIRGIL GLENN ADKINS, 86, of Kenova, W.Va., died Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington. He was born August 16, 1927, in Huntington, W.Va., to Delbert and Gladys Gifford Adkins. He was preceded in death by his sisters Thelma Slayton and Iris Basenback. The family who will dearly miss him are his wife of 61 years, Ella Mae Shannon Adkins; his son Randy Adkins and wife Rhonda of Beckley, W.Va. He dearly loved his Matt Adkins and his wife Jessica of Huntington, Erin Collins and her husband Josh of Kenova and Sean Adkins, also of Huntington. His loving siblings are sisters Rose Barbour of Lexington, Ky., and Annise Berry of Chesapeake, Ohio; brothers Delbert Lee Adkins and wife Joy of Sevierville, Tenn., Sam Adkins and wife Louise of Kenova. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Kenova United Methodist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. at the church. She was born December 2, 1938, in Hitchins, Ky, a daughter of the late Virgil D. Boggs and Golda Leigh Hammond Boggs. She was also preceded in death by a sister Loretta Deweese. She is survived by her husband Everett L. Childers; one daughter, Marsha Diane Childers; siblings Dorothy Compton, Hattie Mynes, David (Kathy) Boggs and Carolyn (Bill) McGhee. She was born September 12, 1925, in Huntington, a daughter of the late Paul and Dorothy Childers Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband D.P. Chris Chrislip Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Parker of Barboursville and Marsha Ward of Columbia, S.C.; sister-in-law Alma Nichols of Clendenin, W.Va.; five grandchildren, Dicky Parker, David Parker, Christopher Ward, Marshall Ward and Courtney Ward; and seven great-grandchildren.
