March 30, 2014. 9:15pm Tonight I want to pay tribute to our parents, Afton and Lee. Each of them in their own way have contributed to Patricks continued recovery. Mom has arrived at the hospital each weekday morning at 7:00am for the last couple of months. She has stayed each day until Jana or one of us arrive. Her and Patrick have a created a routine which ensures he has eaten, been dressed, and waiting for his therapy sessions to begin. She has videoed his first steps, shed tears of joy, had movie dates in Patricks room, provided licorice and treats for said movie dates, and been his biggest protector. During his therapy sessions she has became the fastest Facebooker in the west. Dad has been 5000 miles away but called daily to get updates. He and Dan have been able to spend a few days taking care of Patrick when he has been in town. The nurses refer to these days as the boys club. For the past few weeks Patrick has enjoyed some freedom with the use of a power wheelchair that was so graciously donated by a medical supply company. The company was hoping the hospital would then remember their kindness and purchase the chair. Unfortunately, the hospital does not have the funds to purchase the wheelchair. The chair had to be returned Friday leaving Patrick without the ability to be in charge of his independence. After many phone calls and meetings dad has been able to locate a replacement power wheelchair for Patrick. Patricks chair will be delivered Monday or Tuesday. Patrick will use the chair until he has recovered. The chair will then be donated to the rehabilitation center in Patricks name. Dad wanted to show our appreciation for the treatment Patrick has received. This will ensure other patients will feel the independence that the chair has given Patrick. I am sure as mom and dad read this they will scold me, but I wanted to share with each of you how our parents are caring and loving Patrick. We are very proud of both of them and we love them both very much!! They truly exemplify the love of a parent to their child.
