March 7 Someone said to me recently “I noticed that you usually quote a lot of Bible verses in a Sunday morning message.” Yes, that’s true, as I happen to believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God; and I believe in some cases it’s more important hearing the Word of God than my word about the Word of God. In fact, I’m not sure there is enough Bible reading on Sunday morning or any other day of the week. I’ve read the Bible. That’s why I ask the members to read the lessons and some of the prayers during the worship service. There was a time in the history of our nation when you learned to read using the Bible, and almost everyone you met had read the Bible and knew what was in it. In fact, if most of the people in this nation had read and knew the word of God, we perhaps wouldn’t be in the kind of mess we are in today. The people elect representatives that are as Biblically illiterate as they are, and unless the people wake up, the great experiment of building a nation founded on the teachings of the word of God will fail. Plato was right when he said “What is honored in a country is cultivated there,” and inferred that corruption in a nation represents the values of the people. The very statistic that 50 years ago, over a third of the people of this country were in church on Sunday morning, and it’s somewhat less than 17% today I‘m told, predicts exactly where we are headed. I believe the statement, “our greatest years as a nation are ahead” is delusional. Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, hit me by the side of my head with something to get my attention so that I will give more attention to reading and hearing Your Word.
