March Exams impossible due to weather” Mass Promotion not against govt order: CCPS “Don’t make next generation, a Doreamon generation” press release Srinagar, Oct 29: The Coordination Committee of Private Schools (CCPS) has denied being against the March examinations as ordered by the state cabinet and have termed the mass promotion to students upto class 7 as a way to prepare students for the next academic session and compensate them for floods. The committee also expressed their apprehension about opening of schools in March due to bad weather. “Just see our history, March comes with unexpected weather with temperature remaining below 15 degrees,” said Prof A G Masood spokesman CCPS. “Even this year we had heavy snowfall in March that forced our schools to open at the end of March. So in an ideal situation exams can be possible only in April only and next session starts in May 2015.” The committee said that such a situation would destroys thousands of careers forever. The committee reiterated that all the schools that have granted mass promotion to students abide by government rules. There is no question of creating confusion among students. We are going to conduct exams for all higher classes whenever government orders, said Masood. We have mass promoted the students upto class 7 and their certificates would be issued in March or as is deemed fit by the government. So it is just change of syllabus for them and nothing else.” The committee termed the mass promotion as a flood relief package to students. “At a time when government has literally done nothing for the education sector, it is we who have taken an initiative that has been lauded at national level too,” said Masood. “With mass promotion flood affected students won’t have to buy books for previous classes again, they won’t have to pay the examination and printing charges and above all for the next six months they will know what to read.” The committee said that civil society and the representatives of the schools is fighting for making March as a permanent session. “If we had any ulterior motive of mass promoting students then why would we demand a permanent March session,” said Masood. “We came to this conclusion after discussing with ducation experts and accessing meterological data.” The committee said that if government wants to oppose Mass Promotion to students then they should come in open. “Let them give us legal and logical reasons and tell people how it is going to be benefit their wards. Let them openly say that no relaxation would be given to flood affected students and they will have to suffer,” said Masood. “As of now children have revised their syllabus twice and they refuse to go to schools for a thrid revision. At home they are just watching cartoon shows of Doraemon. Is government trying to make our next generation a Doraemon generation? Give them something new to read.”
