Marco Island - December 1904 These pictures illuminate the sharp contrast between the various individuals, groups, and cultures that inhabited southwest Florida at the beginning of the 1900s. The three girls or sisters are playing on the beach at Marco Island on Christmas Day in 1904. Their names are Rosalie, 3-years old; Saloma, 5-years old, and Orida, 8-years old. The photo of the two coconut palms, frames the navigation beacon off of Marco Island and the photo of the woman standing next to the canoe was taken on August 14, 1908, and she is Mabel, the photographers older sister. The final photograph, is a pre-Colombian shell mound on Marco Island. (Milanich and Root, 2013, 49476, 49490, 48736, 48530, 48733)
