Margaret Bell Independent for Thuringowa Margaret Bell announced today that with the support of the Australian Voice Party she will be contesting the January 31 Queensland State Election. Margaret Bell has lived in Thuringowa since 1990. Margaret has worked as a qualified enrolled nurse for twelve years in local hospitals. She was employed as a child care worker for five years, then for the last nineteen years has worked as a health care worker at local clinics. Margaret Bell also is a small business operator having established a dance school in the local area in 1991. She now holds various diplomas in dance, a small business management certificate and a Diploma in PR and Event management making her a strong advocate for the Arts. Margaret Bell is happily married to a builder, so is very much aware of the struggles many tradies are facing in the community. Margaret Bell became involved in politics three years ago and has supported campaigns for the last state election. She was originally endorsed as number five on a Senate ticket but changed to a new party by the name of Australian Voice Party to stand as a Federal Candidate for the electorate of Townsville. Margaret Bell is rapidly gaining confidence and respect in the community being an active member and supporting many local causes from ‘The Cure Starts Now’ to raising awareness since 2005 for the need for a cyclone shelter in the area. She has fought for a supervised crossing on Veales Road and is actively pursuing the debacle regarding unfair fuel costs in the Townsville region and the loss of areas and facilities to access beaches and parks for such activities as quad bike riding and fishing, and supporting those fighting in Kelso for the Round Mountain road access dispute. . Margaret is Chairperson for the national executive for Australian Voice Party as well as the North Queensland coordinator and president of the Townsville branch. She is also treasurer for the LAC (Local Ambulance Committee), a member of the Residents and Ratepayers Association and a member of the Northern Beaches Community Hub Association. Margaret Bell is standing strongly as a voice for all those who have been unjustly treated by this cruel Queensland government. Her concerns range from the high cost of living (electricity, insurance and rates) to lack of jobs. She is fighting against the disgraceful pay offer to our defense force and standing up for the elderly and infirm struggling to make ends meet. Margaret is very concerned with the way education, health, agriculture, manufacturing and the environment are being treated with so much contempt from both governments and has raised numerous concerns for the future of our children and grandchildren as our assets are slowly being sold off to the highest bidder and profits and jobs are being sent offshore. Having come from a very strong farming community her concerns for our farmers are not taken lightly, as drought ,banks and CSG threaten to destroy the Australia we know and love and our food security is slowly being eroded away, replaced by deadly foreign imports with false labelling. Margaret does not believe politician’s entitlements should include special concessions and overinflated pensions once they have left office and was outraged at the pay increases members of parliament gave themselves whilst telling everyone to tighten their belts and suggest everyone pay doctor co -payments to fund research. Margaret Bell supports the reconstruction of Riverway Drive wanting see more action not studies done to improve congestion and safety. She also supports funding for a motor sports complex and has concerns over the Pinnacles development decisions causing delays for much need infrastructure in the upper Kelso areas. Understanding that a super stadium would be a great asset to the community as a whole to bring top sports events and shows to the region in turn stimulating the economy and boosting small business, hospitality and tourism, Margaret Bell is concerned the cost of this facility will hit the ratepayers pocket with more rate increases that the people of Townsville can least afford. There for she will be fighting tooth and nail to secure full funding from both State and Federal governments to finance this project insisting that all tenders, jobs and the ongoing running, and maintenance of the facility be done by local employees and businesses. MARGARET SAID “NORTH QUEENSLAND HAS MISSED OUT ON SO MUCH FOR SO LONG. IF YOU WANT SOMEONE WHO TRULY CARES ABOUT THE ELECTORATE –SOMEONE PREPARED TO GET OFF THEIR BACK SIDE AND DO SOMETHING-SOMEONE WHO WILL TRULY LISTEN AND ACT ON YOUR CONCERNS AND NOT ON THE PARTY POLICIES, THEN PLEASE CONSIDER GIVING ME YOUR NUMBER 1 VOTE” MARGARET BELL INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE FOR THURINGOWA
