Accumulated costs, analyzed data... Converted antiquated AS400 systems into windows based data manager platforms that by todays cloud-based standards are yesterdays internet. We did well with both.... Had a good living ... Restaurants, cars, trucks.... even a little attitude .... Now weve been on our own for 8 years.... Had some great years and lean years .... Been called several names: good, bad and ugly.... Al, by the same person.... .... I see a lot of young college bound kids today.... I like that.... I hope some go to business and engineering school... They have the aptitude for it and many kids today will make some great changes... There is a tremendous difference between government agency workers and private sector workers..... In the private sector its much like being on your own - you either perform or you go home..... Government is much easier.... Lots of time to dedicate to other things.... As long as the requirements of your job are done there is not much initiative to work or go out of the comfort zone .... The environment of the State is heavy government. In this state the prevailing attitude is government is the answer. For social programs, public safety and public infrastructure development this is probably true.... No profit for the private sector to build bridges to nowhere ... Or point Mckenzie either .... When government attempts to do things out of their comfort zone or convinces themselves they have capabilities they dont, then projects like: Mertarvik appear. Stalled, very high social and economic costs borne by folks with the least resources and the most to lose. Newtok is an example of a community where government thinks they have the capability to manage and plan a community relocation. Its resulted in a complete disaster; politically, economically and most by all accounts socially and with incredibly diminished health of the community. Poor attitudes, terrible Ill will towards everyone is to be had.... People cant walk the boardwalk without some snide remark... Some look or poor opinion of their neighbor.... My advice for the young kids going to school... If youre going to business or engineering school .... Prepare for an eye opening experience... The most exciting times youll ever have is ironically in the field of economics and business .... I still think back to the guy at the party gym taking our $2 bucks to play noon all: economics class? Isnt that boring?... .... Its not.... Whenever I get a little frustrated from dealing with government workers I watch this movie.... Just to get the boat upright again and remind me that.... Without the private sector there wouldnt be much government at all ... Time to take a break from pushing contracts... Get the kiddos and go mannuq! :-)
