Marian Rivera makes Davao fans extra happy By Isah V. Red What can make the annual Kadayawan festival special for TV fans? Two Saturdays ago, while the northern part of the country was bracing for Typhoon Maring, we boarded a mid-morning 747 flight to Davao City, which was celebrating the annual festival as a way of thanking heavens for a bountiful harvest (or in this case for the progress of the city). Marian Rivera, GMA Network’s premier star and hailed by the network’s publicity machinery as the “primetime queen,” arrived shortly after lunchtime, and immediately, after taking a bit of food from the buffet in Chippens Restaurant, a short drive from Marco Polo Hotel where she is booked to stay while in the city, sat down with the local press for a brief interview. Members of the media who flew in from Manila (including this writer) joined the interview where Rivera said she enjoys doing all the provincial sorties while waiting for her next project on GMA-7. “It gives me the chance to bond with my fans,” she said, “and I am glad to know that they are so welcoming and generous and making me feel part of their lives.” At the Fans Day at Gaisano Mall later in the day, the Marian Rivera fans in Davao were full force to greet their idol. All of them were excited to join the games prepared by the local GMA Network staff before Rivera came on stage. There were dance-like-Marian, act-like-Marian, and all those stuff that thrill the fans. When Rivera finally made an appearance, the entire mall seemed to have rocked and if it were an earthquake it would have registered and intensity 8 on the Richter scale. manilastandardtoday/2013/08/26/marian-rivera-makes-davao-fans-extra-happy/
