Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) shelter director - TopicsExpress

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) shelter director Rodrigo Silva has been here in Maricopa County since 2004 and it has been business as usual with shelter animals needlessly leaving the back door in body bags. Mr. Silva refuses to even TRY to take killing off the table. Under his leadership, one animal is killed every 10 minutes MCACC is open to the public. It does not have to be this way. Make no doubt about it, it is on us - the animal loving public - to take a stand and fight for shelter reform. We are their voice. There are hundreds of No Kill communities across the nation that are saving at an upwards of 95% of their shelter animals. Something cant be both impossible and already happening. Shelter reform now at MCACC! via No Kill Coalition: NO KILL EQUATION #11 - A Compassionate Director The final element of the No Kill Equation is the most important of all, without which all other elements are thwarted—a hard working, compassionate animal control or shelter director not content to continue killing, while regurgitate tired clichés or hiding behind the myth of “too many animals, not enough homes.” It is clear that No Kill is simply not achievable without rigorous implementation of each and every one of these programs and services. These programs provide the only model which has ever created No Kill communities. It is up to us in the humane movement to demand them of our local shelters, and no longer to settle for the illusory excuses and smokescreens that shelters often put up in order to avoid implementing them.
