Marie and I went to Chinese Buffet for lunch yesterday. Their usual price was 7.99 for a sumptuous spread which included soup, salad bar, many entrees and a raw bar with clams, mussels, peel and eat shrimp and oysters. While the manager is never happy to see me, he refrains from any wisecracks-just sends a girl to my table with a check after he thinks I have had enough which is usually after he has lost the profit for that day-but not for the week. The plate of food that I enjoy the most is the one I consume AFTER the check has been delivered! Anyway, this was the problem. Price was reduced to 5.99. But, when I went to the usual area for the raw bar, there was a big tray of lettuce. No shrimp, clams, etc. I was devastated. Moreover, the usual shrimp in lobster sauce entrée was gone. I looked everywhere, but sadly returned to my table with no shrimp and longing for Prozac-I was devastated. Marie comforted me by promising a different buffet the next time. But still, this was not right. I tried to ease my pain by eating more fake sushi, but my depression worsened. Then, alas, I heard an elderly voice proclaimWhere are MY shrimp? She was about 80, maybe 5 feet tall and a hundred pounds and was aided by a walker. She was berating the profit seeking manager. They were trying to get her to leave and I had enough. I hobbled over with my cane and said Let her have her say and by the way, where are the shrimp? After turning down the offer of a free fortune cookie-which were free anyway-the woman-Miss Anne and I began chanting We want the shrimp and soon, many others had joined us as Miss Ann and I led a congo line of dancers through the restaurant-all chanting for our shrimp. Marie stood to the side denying knowing me. Anyway, the manager must have been related to Seinfelds soup Nazi because he proclaimed no shrimp for you and closed the restaurant. We left. But revenge is sweet. Drove by there today-the place was closed-and a signed proudly announced the coming of an Old Country Buffet. They better treat me and Miss Ann right.
