Marinha Americana anunciou hoje que não irá mais reparar o Submarino Miami SSN 755, que foi danificado em um incendio. O Contra Almirante Rick Breckenridge afirmou pela manhã que infelizmente os custos de reparo da embarcação ficaram muito altos e os cortes orçamentários impediram a restauração da embarcação danificada, que foram orçados em 450 milhões de dolares. Segundo o Almirante, infelizmente esse alto custo impediria a aquisição de outros navios de superfície e o comando optou por não sacrificar dezenas de embarcações em nome de apenas uma. O Miami, submarino de ataque nuclear da classe Los Angeles, pegou fogo no dia 25 de maio de 2012 devido a um incendio crminoso provocado por um funcionário do porto. US NAvy has announced today that they have no intentions to repair the SSN755 Miami. The decision was take due to the high costs to repair the ship, which is around 450 million USD. According to Rear Adm. Rick Breckenridge this cost would avoid the Navy to buy some new surface ships. “We will lose the five deployments that MIAMI would have provided over the remaining ten years of her planned service life, but in exchange for avoiding the cost of repairs, we will open up funds to support other vital maintenance efforts, improving the wholeness and readiness of the fleet.” The Admiral concluded regarding that the budget cuts affected their capacity to develop all the projects.
