Maritime security (MARSEC) is a business that not only affects the security of Singapore but also the free flow of shipping through our regional waters. These are important and complex issues requiring the support and cooperation of all our maritime security partners, both national as well as international. RADM Giam Hock Koon said during his first address after taking command of our Maritime Security Task Force (MSTF) on 11 Jul 2013. Leading the Frontline 24/7 team, RADM Giam has ensured that MSTF is maintained at a high level of readiness to enforce MARSEC in our waters, protect our maritime interests, and defend our everyday. Driving the MSTFs efforts to foster closer inter-agency collaboration and forge strong internal cooperation with maritime agencies, RADM Giam had led the efforts for National Maritime Security System to achieve full operational capabilities during the Ex Highcrest in 2013; and established the Information Fusion Centre as a leading regional MARSEC information sharing hub by expanding the circle beyond our immediate neighbours. On 7 Nov 2014, RADM Giam handed over the reins to COL Frederick Chew at a change of command ceremony held in Changi Naval Base. Chief of Navy Sir, I stand ready to be relieved.
