Mariyaan Review: Story: A regular love story with some - TopicsExpress

Mariyaan Review: Story: A regular love story with some extraordinary visuals and acting. I am going to avoid spoilers as much as possible. The story starts in Sudan Africa the part of the world which was not shown much on screen. And then memory of the protagonist takes back to his fishing village in India and his love of life. How he ends up in Sudan is shown in the first half with high octave emotional love angle. The second half of the story deals with survival and spirit of life and love. Performance: Dhanush carries this whole story forward with ease and comfort. It has become obvious what Dhanush can accomplish if the story is in his forte (Kadal Raasa dan). Parvathi at times out performs Dhanush with amazing screen presence and expressions. All other characters chips in with some so called comic relief from Nandu and Appukutti. Team: Bharat Bala has done one thing very well that is selecting amazing technicians and cast. Cinematography is the soul of this movie which pulls some strings in our heart with apt BGM. Some songs were effective apart from that usual stuff from ARR, we tend to not critique him as he has reached the peak but still songs could have been better. Editing is impressive, art direction stands out. Critique: This is a love story, let us be clear on that. Narration is artistic But the screenplay falls short with little more research and detailing it would have excelled. The movie is not for commercial audience, we have to be open minded while entering to watch this movie to appreciate the efforts made. It is emotional, enthralling, at times melodramatic. African villains shoots in air way too much with cliche after cliche. Not that entertaining, if you are looking for entertainment there are many other options available. If you are looking for a different experience and have patience with appreciation for visuals and emotions go for it. Plus: Cast and crew ( simple as that) Minus: Lack of connection with the characters(specially african antagonist) Melodrama Justification on the strong love Verdict: Go and watch for the efforts and high class performances. Rating: 6/10 review by vignesh raja! its the most apt review on maryan!
