Mark 10:17-18 And when he was gone forth into the way, there - TopicsExpress

Mark 10:17-18 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. Thats many peoples slam Dunk passage to deny the deity of Christ. But lets look at it carefully. When reading, it always important to pay attention to who the audience is. Its also important to not read more (or less) into what is being said. What exactly was Jesus saying? He asked a question and made a statement. • Why callest thou me good? • There is none good, but one, that is God. Was Jesus asking the man for information that he didnt already have? Of course not. The Bible says that Jesus knows what is in man (John 2:24-25). Jesus wasnt denying that he was good. He was simply asking a question. Of course, its natural to theorize that perhaps Jesus was denying his goodness. But its important not to jump to that conclusion as its not what he said. We know he was good, because the Bible says it elsewhere. In John 10:11, he calls himself the Good Shepherd. It also says that he was without sin (Hebrews 4:15), and that he did no sin (1 Peter 2:22). He then says that there is none good, but one, that is God. So let me turn the tables. Jesus said that none is good, except God. Correct? That was a statement, not a question. So if only God is good, and Jesus is not God, then youre essentially saying that what the rest of the Bible says about Jesus being sinless is a lie. Cause if hes not God, and was sinless, then saying that only God is good would be untrue. Or youd have to agree that Jesus, being good and sinless, is in fact testimony that he is God. In other words, if we are to accept that the whole Bible is true, then this passage shows that Jesus is God after all. Ironic, since its the very passage used to try to prove otherwise. Isaiah 40:25 (God speaking) To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the HOLY ONE. Acts 3:14 (Speaking of Jesus) But ye denied the HOLY ONE and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;
