Mark 8:31-33 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must - TopicsExpress

Mark 8:31-33 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” Rebuke is defined as the following: to express sharp, stern disapproval of; reprove; reprimand. I sometimes have a difficult time picturing anyone pulling Jesus aside and rebuking Him. Who is Peter, that he would think this is the right course of action? Just a few verses earlier, in response to Jesus question of who He is, Peter response is You are the Messiah. Even though Peter responds in this way, his understanding of what that means is somewhat inaccurate. Apart from utter dependence upon Christ and being led by the Holy Spirit, we are all susceptible to Satans deceit and lies. Take a moment today and consider how you see the world. Are you mindful of the things of God, or the things of men? Verse/Commentary courtesy of Jesus Daily: Bible Devotional
