Mark Update: The doctors at Cedars Sinai Hospital have been - TopicsExpress

Mark Update: The doctors at Cedars Sinai Hospital have been awesome with Marks care. They have had him on the Heparin drip since last night and have done blood tests and ultrasounds. Unfortunately his numbers are not improving so he is now getting injections and a doubled dose of heparin thru tonight in order to see if it makes a difference and if they can do the procedure tomorrow. He had an ultrasound today and his leg is reclotted and the stint put in is already clotted as well. Then this afternoon I get a call from financial services from the hospital and they tell me that Blue Shield insurance is not covered by Cedars Sinai hospital and our bill we owe already is very hefty and climbing. This was a shock to me because I called and verified this was a covered hospital and what our maximum out of pocket expense would be ($5200)....so now that we finally got the medical care he needs they are talking about transferring him someplace else. His doctor is amazing and agreed to not charge us and fight for him to stay put but our hospital bill is already over $20,000! Ugh! Why cant anything be easy?? Hopefully tomorrow will bring good news. The doctor agreed to write letters on our behalf and speak to insurance that since Mark is not responding to medication we have to be admitted and closely monitored this is an emergency, life and limb threatening situation. There are grants possibly available for him and we have been told the hospital has been very generous in these situations so fingers crossed that we can get him the care he needs!! #savemarksfatleg
