There has been speculation that it refers to the number 666, or tattoos, or birthmarks. Really, if anything could be considered a “mark”, it could be considered the “mark of the beast”. But the truth is much simpler than that. Armageddon has always been about the loop coming full circle: beginning and end, alpha and omega. The first beast, and the last beast, is the Serpent. That which tempted Adam and Eve to taste of the apple, the fruit of good and evil. It is the same beast that will return to finish the job.
