Mark this day and tell me in 2 years if I was right. In my opinion, this is one of the stupidest things voters in Miami have approved by a vote. Forget the fact that many things are done without our say. I dont live in the City of Miami and so was not allowed to vote. You like Fresh Market? Ha! Try getting there once this is built - or anywhere in the Grove for that matter. Unless you are coming from the south up Main Highway and only want to get to Commodore Plaza, you will be in a gridlock of cars. It wont just be during rush hour anymore either. They are building a massive parking lot. How do you think the cars will get there?? Beautiful Bayshore Drive will be a parking lot. The Citys solution to that? Well, I can tell you what they did in Shenandoah when I was a teen. Back then, the Dolphin games were played at the Orange Bowl. 17th Avenue was the main street in and was blocked to US1. This was a beautiful tree-lined street with mahogany trees on both sides. There was one lane each way, parking along the street, a swale, sidewalk, then the owners property line. Eminent Domain allowed the City to take out the street parking, the swale and beautiful old trees, and expand the street to 2 lanes each way. It took a year or two to complete and was finished shortly before the Dolphins new stadium was completed. This diminished the values of the homes along 17th Avenue as well as the adjacent homes because they were now very close to a high-traffice street. Gee, I wonder what the owners of the homes on Bayshore will feel like when it happens to them! The City of Miami has absolutely no sense of planning. It is guided by what they see as the almightly dollar rather than what makes sense for the long term and what will have a positive effect. Ive only touched on the traffic problem too. Do you want to deal with even more traffice just to walk what used to be the quaint streets of th Grove and visit the boutique shops? Im going to miss Coconut Grove. It used to be a nice place to go.
