FRANKFORT POLICE TO HOST COFFEE WITH A COP DECEMBER 6 Relationship building between officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time Frankfort, Ind. – November 24, 2014 – Community members are invited to join Frankfort police officers at Flavors Coffeehouse & Deli at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6 for informal conversations to build relationships, discuss public safety and enjoy a hot cup of coffee together. According to Police Chief Troy Bacon, Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for residents to ask questions and learn more about the Department’s work throughout the City. “The majority of contact law enforcement has with the public happens during emergencies and in times of emotional stress. Those situations are not the most effective opportunities for relationship building with those we serve. “Some community members may feel as though officers are unapproachable or residents may incorrectly believe it is inappropriate to approach officers on the street. We want to change those beliefs by breaking down those barriers. Our Coffee with a Cop events allow us to do that through relaxed, one-on-one interactions. “We want our residents to feel comfortable asking questions, bringing forward concerns or simply getting to know our officers because all of these types of interactions are the foundation of building partnerships, trust and communications between residents and officers,” Bacon said. A national initiative supported by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, Coffee with a Cop aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time. Flavors is located at 63 East Clinton Street.
