Marlene Marie Morris Oct. 17, 1937 — April 4, 2014 Longtime Columbia resident Marlene Marie Morris passed away on April 4, 2014 at her home. She was 76 years old. She was born to Lucy Furtado Lewis Caldeira and Manuel Silveira Lewis on Oct. 17, 1937 in Niles, Calif. Marlene lived in the Bay Area her whole life between Newark, Hayward and Fremont. She attended Washington High School in Fremont, where she was a cheerleader and graduated in 1956. She married Wilbert Morris in 1957 and they had four children. She was a wonderful Mom, she loved cooking, reading, camping, crocheting and hosted all the family gatherings. She often took in kids who needed help. She loved dancing, bowling, girl scouts, horseback riding and motorcycle races. The most important thing in her life was her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marlene also attended many Portuguese Holy Ghosts and marched many parades for the S.E.S in Newark. Her grandfather, Antone Lewis, of Newark, had apricot orchards where she would cut apricots. She was involved in S.P.R.S.I., a women’s Portuguese fraternal organization and also was a pitcher for the Rebels softball team in Hayward. She loved life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Lucy Lewis; and her brother, Melvin Allen Lewis. Marlene is survived by her husband of 57 years, Wilbert Victor “Sonny” Morris; her children, Vickie Morris Mendoza, of Twain Harte, Kathie Morris Turgeon and her son-in-law Ron Turgeon, of Sonora, Stanley Victor Morris and her daughter-in-law Tammy Morris, of Columbia and Dorene Morris Torres, of Sonora; Siblings, Diana Lewis Teale, of Oakhurst, Robert Missipo, of Paradise, Debbie Lewis Howard, of Turlock, Lori Lewis Vogel, of Milpitas, and Mandy Lewis Silva, of Turlock; grandchildren, Dusty Mendoza, of Columbia, Rachelle and Kara Turgeon, of Sonora, Jolene Morris, of Hayward, Ashley Wood Morris, of Lathrop, Tiffany Morris, of Sonora, Tanner Morris, of Columbia, Mario Torres and his wife Stevi, of Sonora, Veronica Torres Trevillyan and her husband Thomas, of Leota, Minn.; foster granddaughter, Fantasia Baker, of Sonora and Jeramie Misner, of Oakdale; great-grandchildren, Kiya and Kendall Trevillyan; and lots of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and dear friends. A service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home, which is handling arrangements.
