Marlene Pinnock On July 1, 2014, 51 year old Marlene Pinnock, a homeless woman, was attacked by California Highway Patrol officer Daniel Andrew on a freeway west of downtown Los Angeles. Pinnock was reportedly walking along the high way, and may have been suffering from psychiatric problems. The Police officer was attempting to restrain Pinnock. A passerby caught the shocking event on a cell phone, and the video has gone viral. In the video, the officer Andrew can be seen using excessive force on Pinnock, who was reportedly not resisting arrest. The Andrew is shown grabbing Pinnock from behind and throwing her with great force to the ground. Andrew then straddled the woman and began repeatedly punching her upper body and directly in her face. Pinnock, who claims she feared for her life during the attack was hospitalized for head injuries and personal trauma. The police officer was placed on desk duty. Pinnock will receive $1.5 million in a trust under a settlement reached and the officer has agreed to resign. CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow confirmed the settlement in an emailed statement and an attorney for Pinnock confirmed the dollar amount for Black Wall Street USA. The agreement came after a nine-hour mediation session in Los Angeles. When this incident occurred, I promised that I would look into it and vowed a swift resolution, Farrows statement said. We have worked constructively to reach a settlement agreement that is satisfactory to all parties involved. The statement said that Officer Andrew, who joined the CHP in 2012 and has been on paid administrative leave since the incident, has elected to resign. Andrew could still be charged criminally in the case. The CHP forwarded the results of its investigation of the incident to Los Angeles County prosecutors last month, saying he could face serious charges but none have been filed yet.
